Ottawa, ON – The Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) and its provincial veterinary technologist/technician associations members are pleased to welcome the Association of Animal Health Technicians of Quebec (ATSAQ) to its membership in its effort to unite, advance and strengthen the Registered Veterinary Technologist/Technician (RVT) profession across Canada.

“We are very excited to grow RVTTC and welcome ATSAQ into our membership,” says RVTTC President, Heather Shannon. “We continuously strive to champion the RVT profession on a national level and achieve animal healthcare excellence. With the addition of Animal Health/Vet Techs from the province of Quebec, we are excited for the wonderful new opportunities it brings to the profession.”

ATSAQ was one of the original members when the national association was created in 1989 and remained one for 24 years. The Quebec association rejoins with 304 of its almost 1000 members certified TSA (TSAc) members, the equivalent to a Registered Veterinary Technologist/Technician (RVT), to RVTTC’s 8,931 members across Canada.

“As an RVT, I know our profession is an integral part of the animal health care team,” says ATSAQ President Francis Rousseau TSAc/RVT. “I’m happy to know that my provincial association joins my field of work’s national association and can’t wait to participate with RVTTC’s projects and see where we can grow together!”

RVTs contribute to the essential service of veterinary medicine through their knowledge of animal health, understanding of zoonotic diseases, use of personal protective equipment, disinfection, and disease control. RVTs are an integral part of the animal health care team, helping to ensure the safety of the food chain for Canadians, as well as protecting the human-animal bond by keeping companion animals healthy.

RVTTC is now comprised of members from the following provincial associations: British Columbia Veterinary Technologists Association (British Columbia), Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (Alberta), Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists (Saskatchewan), Manitoba Veterinary Technologists Association (Manitoba), Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (Ontario), ATSAQ (Quebec), and Eastern Veterinary Technicians Association (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland/Labrador).
