RVTTC — AWARDS & BURSARIES

Each year the RVTTC and its partners recognize individuals who have demonstrated exemplary efforts towards the RVT profession and their remarkable commitment to animal health and welfare.

On an annual basis, RVTTC selects deserving recipient for the following awards:


Canadian Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist (RVT/TSAc) of the Year Award

Sponsored by: Hill’s Pet Nutrition Canada

Awarded to a Registered Veterinary Technologist/Technician/TSAc who exemplifies the definition of an outstanding individual in the RVT profession.

Award winners receive travel and accommodation arrangements (up to $2500) and one CVMA Convention registration to attend the upcoming CVMA Convention (2026 Convention is June 24-26, 2026 in Charlottetown, PE.I. )

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an RVT/TSAc in good standing in Canada
  • Must have participated as (A) a past or present Board Member of RVTTC or their provincial association and/or (B) been recognized as a provincial RVT award winner by their own provincial member organization.
  • Be involved, active or current in the veterinary technology profession.
  • Have outstanding performance in their workplace.

Nominations are to be submitted to the RVTTC Board of Directors by email to info@rvttcanada.ca. Submissions, in WORD or PDF format, are to include:

    • name and contact information for the nominator
    • the name, contact information, and designation of the nominee,
    • a brief biography of the nominee, (outlining their education, work history, volunteerism, association involvement, and contributions to the profession) and
    • a photo/headshot of the nominee suitable for announcing the winner
    • a summary of how and why this nominee meets the identified award criteria:
      • when and how did they contribute as a board member of their association and/or when/how were they recognized as a provincial award winner?
      • how are they involved, active, or current in the veterinary technology profession?
      • how are they outstanding in their workplace?
      • how do they meet the definition of an outstanding individual in the RVT/TSAc profession?
      • how have they contributed to the profession at large? e.g. outstanding in their workplace, as a leader in veterinary organizations or as a mentor for others, recognized as an expert in their field, etc.

The 2026 Nomination Deadline is April 15, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

RVTTC is currently reviewing the following awards:

RVTTC Student Bursary

To aid in the advancement of student veterinary/animal health technicians and technologists, RVTTC/TTVAC provided an annual educational scholarship of $500.00 to student registered in their final year in a veterinary/animal health technician/technologist program. One scholarship was awarded in each RVTTC/TVAC member province, to be distributed among students who exemplify compassionate care, go above and beyond to improve the profession and demonstrate considerable clinical strength. This award was previously sponsored by Fetch by the Dodo (formerly Petplan Pet Insurance),

Students are nominated by program faculty demonstrating the following qualities:

  • Students enrolled in CVMA and/or OAVT accredited AHT/VT program
  • Maintain good academic standing (min average 65%)
  • Express sincere interest in the Human-Animal Bond and demonstrates a high level proficiency in the handling of dogs and cats and associated skill components
  • Displays interest in client communication
  • Preference will be given to those who have contributed to their community in a manner that demonstrates their love and compassion for animals.

RVTTC Recognition Award — ‘Making a Difference’

Formally recognizes the contribution of an individual RVT/TSAc to their national association.

The recipient will:

  • Be a previous RVTTC Board Member
  • Have shown exemplary performance and participation at their provincial level
  • Have shown exemplary performance and participation at their national level
  • Have extensive participation with projects and extended committee duties
  • Have contributed greatly to the profession of RVTs

RVTTC Sandy Hass Appreciation Award

Formally recognizes the contribution of an individual or organization to the Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada.

The recipient will:

  • Be a long time affiliate with RVTTC — industry, associations, etc.
  • Have shown extended performance and participation
  • Have contributed greatly to the RVT profession in Canada
