The Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) is welcoming nominations for its annual awards from Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTs), provincial veterinary associations, and anyone related to veterinary medicine.

Each year, the RVTTC announces deserving recipients for the following awards:

  • Canadian RVT of the Year
  • RVTTC Recognition Award ‘Making a Difference’
  • Sandy Hass Appreciation Award

Awards submissions should be in WORD format and include the name and designation of the nominee, a brief biography of the nominee, and a summary of how and why this nominee meets the identified award criteria. All nominations are reviewed and selected by the RVTTC Board of Directors.

Nominations for each award are to be e-mailed to the RVTTC Executive Director, Shannon Brownrigg, at sbrownrigg@rvttcanada.ca by July 7, 2020. Award recipients are selected during the RVTTC Annual General Meeting; this year held on July 10, 2020.

Awards Descriptions:

The 2021 Canadian RVT of the Year Award is sponsored by Hills Pet Nutrition Canada. It is given to an RVT who exemplifies the definition of an outstanding individual in the Veterinary Technology profession. Nominees must be a RVTTC member in good standing, be a past or present provincial vet tech association board member or a past or present award winner of a provincial RVT award recognized by their own member organization. The nominee must be involved, active or current in the veterinary technology profession and have outstanding performance in their workplace. The 2021 Award winner receives travel and accommodation arrangements (up to $2500) and a CVMA Convention registration to attend the 2021 CVMA Convention in Calgary, Alberta.

The 2020 RVTTC/TTVAC Recognition Award: ‘Making a Difference’ is sponsored by RVTTC. It recognizes a previous RVTTC Board Member who has contributed to the RVT profession as part of their national association. Along with being a previous board member, the person has shown exemplary performance and participation at their provincial level and national level, has extensive participation with projects and extended committee duties and contributed greatly to the profession of RVT.

The 2020 RVTTC/TTVAC Sandy Hass Appreciation Award is sponsored by RVTTC. It recognizes an individual or organization with a long-time affiliation with the RVTTC for their exemplary contribution to the Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada. Nominees must be a long-time affiliate with RVTTC; industry, associations etc., have shown extended performance and participation and contributed greatly to the profession of RVTs in Canada.

As one of the founding organizers of RVTTC (formerly known as Canadian Association of Animal Health Technicians & Technologists CAAHTT), Sandy Hass AHT dedicated almost 20 years to our national association. Starting out as secretary then president, Sandy volunteered on the CAAHTT board of directors for 8 years and then became the associations first Executive Director for another 10 yrs. During this time Sandy was a dedicated volunteer to her own Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technology. As a AHT, Sandy was passionate and a driving force in progressing our profession forward! Thank you Sandy!!!
