Celebrating RVT Month 2025
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – The Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) is proud to celebrate RVT Month this October, recognizing the contributions and diverse roles of Registered Veterinary Technologists/Technicians (RVTs) across the country.
Each October, RVTTC invites the entire veterinary community to celebrate RVT Month—a time to honour the dedication, knowledge, and expertise that RVTs bring to animal health care in every province and territory.
This year’s theme, “RVTs Everywhere: One Profession, Many Opportunities,” spotlights the wide range of career paths available to RVTs in 2025 and beyond. From clinical practice to research, education, regulation, production, and non-profit organizations, as well as entrepreneurial ventures, RVTs are finding meaningful and dynamic ways to apply their skills across the animal health sector and contribute to the veterinary industry.
A Profession with Purpose and Possibility
RVTs are highly trained professionals who have completed accredited programs, passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE), and complete continuing education to maintain active provincial registration. Their education and experience position them to make a significant impact in fields as varied as anesthesia, dentistry, exotic animal care, shelter medicine, equine health, wildlife management, rehabilitation, and more.
“RVTs are truly the backbone of veterinary medicine—and the career opportunities for them have never been more diverse or rewarding,” said Francis Rousseau, President of RVTTC. “RVT Month is a chance to spotlight the wide range of paths open to RVTs and to celebrate the essential role they play across Canada.”
As the veterinary field continues to evolve, so too does the role of the RVT. Today’s RVTs are leaders, innovators, educators, and advocates—not just in clinics, but throughout the entire animal health ecosystem.

From clinical practice to research, education, government and regulation, livestock production and inspection, wildlife refuges and non-profit organizations, as well as entrepreneurial ventures, RVTs are finding meaningful and dynamic ways to apply their skills across the animal health sector and contribute to the veterinary industry. No two Canadian RVTs are exactly alike!

CommuniVET™ RVT PowerUP Fund
Participate in the CommuniVET™ PowerUp fund contest and you could win up to $1,500 to pursue your career aspirations!
In conjunction with the RVT PWR virtual event (October 25, 2025), we will also award the CommuniVET™ RVT PowerUP Fund scholarship during the live event to help cover the costs associated with the professional development of Canadian RVTs.
To be considered for the PowerUp fund, RVTs must describe how the financial support will be used to help enhance their skills and/or advance their career. The catch? Unleash your creativity! Sing, dance, write a poem, perform a skit, write a letter (250 words or less).

CVMA Animal Health Week – October 5-11, 2025 – “Healing Hands, Caring Hearts: Every Animal Matters.”
Animal Health Week (AHW) is an annual national public awareness campaign organized by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. This year marks the 40th Anniversary of this important awareness campaign, and our theme is: “”Healing Hands, Caring Hearts: Every Animal Matters.””.
In 2025, we’re celebrating the vital role veterinary professionals play in protecting and maintaining animal well-being with empathy, expertise, and dedication. This theme highlights both the technical skills (healing hands) and compassion and empathy (caring hearts) veterinary teams must implement to ensure every animal – regardless of species, size, or circumstance – matters.

National Veterinary Technician Week 2025 (American)
In Canada, we decided that a week wasn’t enough and have celebrated National RVT Month since 2017. However, south of the border, the 3rd week of October has been set aside as National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) since 1993.
Just like RVT Month, National Veterinary Technician Week is the time to celebrate, recognize, and promote the valuable contributions Credentialed Veterinary Technicians make to the veterinary profession and society.
The 2025 theme, “Paths to Success: Shining a Light on Credentialed Veterinary Technician Stars,” highlights the many unique journeys of Credentialed Veterinary Technicians (CrVTs) and the mentors, educators, and colleagues who help guide their way.
