Calling all Volunteers!

We are Creating a Task Force to Develop a National Scope of Practice

If you are a RVTTC member, the Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) is looking for volunteers to join our National Scope of Practice Task Force.

“We are looking for RVTTC members to help our task force develop a document that clearly identifies the procedures and knowledge of a credentialed Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist (RVT) within the scope of veterinary medicine,” says RVTTC President, Heather Shannon, RVT.

The comprehensive Scope of Practice reference will demonstrate the expertise RVTs provide in the veterinary team approach to ensure patients receive the best standard of care. This includes distinguishing the specific education and competencies of an RVT and how it differs from other members of the veterinary team.

Volunteer responsibilities include:

  • Review existing veterinary scope of practice documents available across Canada.
  • Review current professional scope of practices of similar health professions.
  • Help create a reference document, through research and compilation of information, to distinguish the role of the RVT within veterinary medicine in Canada

Work on the task force begins February 24th, 2020. Scope of Practice Deadline: July 1, 2020

We are looking for three volunteers to join the RVTTC President, two RVTTC Board of Director Members and the RVTTC Executive Director (ex-officio role).

Volunteers must be RVTTC members from BCVTA, ABVTA, SAVT, MVTA, OAVT, EVTA, representing experience in different areas of veterinary medicine. We are specifically looking to have one RVT from Western Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB) and one RVT from Eastern Canada (ON, NFLD, NS, NB, PEI) to ensure we have a cross Canada perspective during development.

If you are dedicated to the career development and advancement of RVTs with a minimum of three-years’ experience as an RVT, and have access to reliable high-speed internet to participate in monthly video conferences via Zoom through the use of a laptop, PC or smart device with video and audio capabilities, and you are willing to participate in frequent email communications to meet our objective deadline, then you are the person for us!
