Proud to be the voice for her profession and to be called an RVT
Ottawa, ON – The Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) is very pleased to welcome Cally Merritt RVT, CEMT as the new Vice President of the national association for the next two years.
“I’m excited to have the privilege of representing and advocating on behalf of RVTs across Canada,” says Cally RVT. “I take significant pride in being the voice for my profession and being able to call myself an RVT.”
Cally comes from a diverse background in veterinary medicine including work in small, mixed, large, and emergency practices. She is a Registered Veterinary Technician at the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT), a Certified Equine Massage Therapist in Ontario and a member of the American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians and Assistants.
She taught for the Veterinary Technology Program at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus and has been a guest speaker at the OAVT Conference on numerous occasions, focusing on equine medicine.
She took a special interest in board governance and legislative matters during her time on the OAVT Board of Directors, with her most recent elected position on that board as VP in March 2018.
Since becoming a RVTTC member in 2017, Cally has sat on the Communications Committee, Finance Committee, and Bylaw and Policy Committee where she is current Chair participated. She has been involved with a variety of initiatives, including the Labour Mobility Task Force, the Mental Health in Agriculture Pilot Project, and the National Standards of Practice Task Force.
The VP announcement officially occurred on September 13, 2020 during the RVTTC’s AGM, which was a virtual event due to Covid-19. At that time, Heather Shannon RVT, and member of the British Columbia Veterinary Technologists Association (BCVTA), was announced as RVTTC President for a second and final two-year term.
“Heather and I share a passion for the RVT profession, and we will be a great team working alongside the Executive Director and the rest of the RVTTC Board of Directors as we strive to advance and unify the profession across the country,” says Carly RVT.

A huge thank you to outgoing director and Vice President, Ivana Novosel RVT. Ivana joined the RVTTC Board in 2015 as a director representing the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association. As an engaged and dedicated director, Ivana was elected as Vice President in 2018 while also chairing the Communications Committee plus representing the RVTTC on the International Veterinary Nurses & Technicians Association core committee. Thank you Ivana for your commitment to the RVT profession!!
