SASKATOON – The Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) is proud to work with partners across Canada to advance our mission to promote excellence in animal healthcare. The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) is one organization we engage, working together on our shared objectives. The CVMA introduced National Tick Awareness Month in March 2016, and have continued to deliver this annual campaign since, focusing on key components of tick awareness to help protect pets and their people. Sharing information on when and where ticks are active, maps and research to inform and educate, National Tick Awareness Month highlights the important role the veterinary community plays in promoting public health.

This year the theme for National Tick Awareness Month was Outsmart Ticks! Anytime. Anywhere. The focus was on building more awareness for the available tools and resources to help close gaps in knowledge and understanding that communities have when it comes to tick protection. The CVMA produced resources and provided these to all clinics in Canada, including posters and printed materials. Social media posts have also helped to amplify the message and direct the public as well as veterinary teams to valuable information on tick prevention and treatment options.

As National Tick Awareness Month draws to a close, the messaging and information continues to be important in protecting pets and their families. CVMA resources can be accessed at The 2023 National Tick Awareness Month Campaign Reminds Us that We Have All the Tools We Need to Outsmart Ticks! | Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (canadianveterinarians.net) We invite our community to review this important information to help keep our pets and people safe this season.
