Overview

Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital is hiring an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician with a passion for dermatology to join our team where you will work alongside our board-certified Dermatologist and her team. This position requires a driven individual with attention to detail and who is a self- starter, with strong work ethics and integrity, has outstanding client communication skills and is able to work with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate must be computer literate and have solid analytical and medical skills. Critical thinking and problem- solving skills are a must; you must be able to multitask, collaborate and communicate with co-workers efficiently and effectively.

Technical abilities and skills

  • Work independently under the guidance of the Dermatologist
  • Assist and facilitate with appointments
  • Know what is entailed in all dermatology procedures and how to set up for them
  • Enjoy communicating with clients; comfortable taking medical history, communicating discharge information, updating clients.
  • Be able to field phone calls from clients, answer emails, schedule dermatology appointments, and refill prescriptions
  • Maintain the sanitation and stocking of the dermatology appointment room
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of the dermatology room
  • Proper routine care and maintenance of all dermatology equipment
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Employment Manual.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Graduate from a licensed Veterinary Technician program
  • Completed the VTNE
  • In good standing or able to license with provincial licensing boards (NSVMA, EVTA)
  • Minimum of 2-3 years in clinical setting.
  • Prior experience working within a Specialist Referral Hospital is an asset- however, full internal training will also be provided.
  • Able to perform moderately physically demanding work that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion.
