Gayle started her path in Veterinary Medicine in a small town mixed practice.  While pursuing her BSc in Animal Biology at UBC, she gained part time employment in a small research animal facility, and continued working with fascinating species, after graduation. Though learning many on-the-job trained technical skills, she realized that a return to school was in order, so attended the Thompson Rivers University’s Animal Health Technology (now Veterinary Technology, VTEC) Program, graduating in 2007. Gayle returned to UBC, happily accepting a position that lead to becoming a Training Coordinator and Diagnostic Lab Technician, which later evolved to Operations Manager of another research animal facility. Always looking for opportunities to learn, Gayle achieved her Registered Master Laboratory Animal Technician (RMLAT) certification in 2013, Certified Manager of Animal Resource (CMAR) in 2016, as well as Systems Thinking in and Grief Education certification in 2022/2023.  Gayle sits on the UBC Animal Care and Douglas College Veterinary Technology Advisory Committees, is a TRU VTEC Open Learning Instructor, is currently President of the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science (CALAS), and VTEC Program liaison, and aims to apply these experiences to ensure optimal animal care and welfare. Gayle enjoys time spent with her family, friends, and dog, Jettson.
