Ottawa, ON – The Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) is pleased to present registered veterinary technologist, Heather Shannon, with the association’s 2019 Making a Difference Award. The award recognizes a previous RVTTC board member’s exemplary contribution to the RVT profession as part of their work with the national association.

Heather is the current RVTTC president and also holds the position of British Columbia Veterinary Technologists Association (BCVTA). Multiple award nomination submissions highlighted her positive energy, commitment to learning and an unwavering advocacy for the national association to have a more united profession and increased public awareness.

“Heather’s passion and drive are noticed by all,” says Denise Hitt, BCVTA Executive Director. “She tirelessly works to improve and recognize what it means to be a Registered Veterinary Technologist at a local, provincial and national level.”

Heather’s passion to improve the quality of health care for animals and the overall profession is shown through her commitment to lifelong learning and need to empower the students she teaches at the Thompson Rivers University’s Animal Health Technology program.

“It is this commitment to growth and her students’ well-being that makes Heather an outstanding educator and an excellent leader for our profession,” Erica Gray Gowans, AHT, RVT.

The RVTTC ‘Making a Difference’ Award annually recognizes an RVT who has contributed to the RVT profession as part of their national association.
